Tasting Notes and Scores
Boillot's 2015 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru, which hails from the lieu-dit Grand Maupertui (neighboring Anne Gros' parcel), reveals a brooding bouquet of cassis, plum, musk and incense, framed by toasty new oak. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and multidimensional, fresh and vibrant despite its considerable amplitude and power, with a fine-grained chassis of tannin and a long, sapid finish. This is a rich, lavish Clos Vougeot which should develop beautifully in the cellar.

(100% vendange entier ; the Boillots work these vines in Grand Maupertuis themselves): Saturated deep red. Aromas of black cherry, licorice and rose petal communicate striking fruity lift for young Clos Vougeot. Very rich, sappy and deep, but but with no sign of overripeness and markedly different in style from the Côte de Beaune samples that preceded it in my tasting, partly due to its whole-cluster treatment. This distinctly fine-grained Clos Vougeot has clearly benefited from the weather conditions of 2015.

The 2015 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru has more fruit concentration than its counterpart from Bouchard Père, but there is also more reduction and as a consequence, less delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe, quite bold tannin. I appreciate the fruit profile here, which is red but with veins of blue; hints of blood orange emerge toward the finish, lending edginess and tension. Good potential. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.
