The 2017 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru, matured in 50% new oak, is one of the tightest and most backward on the nose of all of Xavier Horiot’s wines. The medium-bodied palate is quite fleshy and pure, with supple tannin, although considering the vineyard, I would like to see just a little more backbone and grit toward the finish. Very fine, but I have a preference for Horiot’s Les Rugiens this year.

Bottled. Mid cherry red. Like all these Launay-Horiot wines, they spotlight the pure fruit and a light framework, really capturing the vintage. In all its delicacy there is still intensity and persistence. No need to wait long for this though it has the frame to age gracefully. Fresh and dense but already supple. (JH)
