Palish medium red. More subdued and less perfumed on the nose than the Suchots, hinting at dark cherry, violet and crushed stone. Then quite rich but rather backward in the mouth, with a strong impression of acidity and a savory quality keeping the fruit under wraps today. Can't match the Suchots for sheer finesse but finishes stony, savory and long, with a firm dusting of tannins.

The 2008 Vosne-Romanée Les Beaumonts 1er Cru has a very earthy, slightly musty nose, with touches of field mushrooms and damp moss. The palate is medium-bodied with light tannins. It is not the most complex Les Beaumonts, but it is balanced with some attenuation on the finish. It just needs a bit more substance and more flesh around the bones. The 2008 Vosne-Romanée Les Beaux Monts flows with dark cherries, flowers and sweet spices. This shows a touch more freshness and verve than the Murgers. It is an attractive wine to drink now and over the next few years.
