Tasting Notes and Scores
Smoke, iron, graphite, incense and blood orange explode from the 2012 Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Saint-Georges. Even with all of its weight, the 2012 remains light on its feet and impeccably balanced. Tobacco, smoke and graphite are layered into the imposing finish. The 2012 Les Saint-Georges is clearly built for the cellar.

(purchased wine): Bright dark red. Riper and more liqueur-like on the nose than the Vaucrains, offering aromas of red berries and licorice. Sweet and fine-grained on entry, then rather closed in the middle, showing good definition but finishes with rather clenched, dusty tannins. Just a touch dry today and in need of further elevage. Not at the level of the better examples from this great premier cru.

The 2012 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Saint Georges has a composed, confident bouquet with perfumed floral aromas complementing the lifted black briary fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with tensile tannins that neatly offset the marmalade-tinged red berry fruit and the fleshy, satisfying finish. There is a sense of bravura about this Les Saint Georges and that is not a bad thing.

Tasted blind. Mid bright crimson with a hint of purple. Complex, intriguing, earthy nose. Very fresh, ferny palate entry and bone dry. Linear. No sweetness but pure. Though it lacked real fruit. (JR)
