The 2018 Volnay Village comes from declassified young vines in Les Santenots. It has a lovely bouquet of perfumed red cherry and wild strawberry fruit laced with wilted rose petals – so damn pretty. The palate of tart red cherry and cassis fruit is framed by fine, almost filigreed tannins, leading to a chalky, sorbet-fresh finish. Superb.

Produced from young vines in Santenots, the 2018 Volnay Village exhibits a rich bouquet of cassis, ripe plums, orange rind and creamy new oak. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, ample and gourmand, with juicy acids and powdery tannins.

Declassified Santenots. Barrel sample. Deep cherry red. Deep in dark, black-cherry fruit but a little bit floral too, somewhere between violets and peony. Fresh and vividly ripe with extremely smooth tannins. (JH)
