The 2020 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru is very floral on the nose with wilted rose petals, freshly tilled loamy soil, almost dominating the red fruit. The palate is elegant and refined, built around the fine tannins, very cohesive and poised, building in the mouth towards a lightly spiced, yet strict finish. It will deserve 4-5 years in bottle, but it should evolve nicely over 20 years plus.

Cask sample. Even paler than the Échezeaux! Smoky/coffee notes on the nose. Mouth-filling and hugely pleasurable but very atypical. I can see people describing this style as 'feminine'. Quite long and definitely more impressive than the Échezeaux. (JR)
