Tasting Notes and Scores
Scents of pear, white flowers, almond paste, buttered toast, citrus zest and smoke preface the 2018 Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru, a full-bodied and satiny wine that's layered and fleshy, with a satiny attack that segues into a tightly wound core and a chalky finish. This, too, should reward bottle age.

1.3 ha (3.2 acres). 25% new oak. Tank sample. More restrained and subtle on the nose compared with the Puligny Les Pucelles, a touch of white mushroom. Delicate stony citrus. But more spicy power on the palate, taut, sinewy, almost lean but very long. High acidity. Coiled, tight, mouth-watering. This is almost severe in its intensity. Power, length and freshness, an elegant powerhouse. (JH)
