Tasting Notes and Scores

94 NM

Tasted out of stainless-steel tank at the Domaine. Compared to the Clavoillon, this is a little broodier, deeper, perhaps a little fresher and greener, with a very faint bell pepper accent in the background. This will probably turn into a spicy bouquet with time. The palate is supremely well balanced, volume in the mouth with that spiciness governing the mineral-rich finish. Superb length. This is a great Folatieres. Tasted January 2011.

Bright yellow. Lovely floral lift to the soft citrus and vanilla aromas. Plenty of fruit here too, but this shows better grip and lift than the Clavoillons, more life in the mouth. At once lush and energetic, and firm and long on the aftertaste. Less obviously 2009 in style.

The 2009 Puligny-Montrachet Folatieres is at once brighter and flashier than the Clavoillons. I especially like the vibrant minerality here. Yellow stone fruits flesh out the mid-palate and finish nicely in this expressive, radiant wine that captures the essence of the year. Remy comments that he tends to use barrels with lower levels of toast for the Folatieres to compensate for the richness the fruit provides on its own. Anticipated maturity: 2014+.

Lightly floral and herby on the nose. Very bright and substantial but extremely youthful, almost as though there were still fermentation aromas here! Vital and pure – the biodynamic wildness seems more obvious here than in lesser Leflaives. Medium to full body. Pretty assertive but very youthful. (JR)
