Tasting Notes and Scores
The 2014 Nuits-Saint-Georges Bas de Combe is the deepest and richest of the three village-level Nuits. Spherical and expansive on the palate, with striking tonalities of dark red and purplish-hued stone fruits, the Bas de Combe offers terrific balance. Rose petal, lavender and licorice infuse the expressive, inviting finish.

The 2014 Nuits St Georges Au Bas de Combe, of which there are just two barrels this year, had a reduced nose when I tasted it from barrel. The palate is lined with darker red fruit than the Lavières, nicely structured, perhaps more masculine, more rustic in style but with plenty of substance. Give it 2-3 years at least after bottling.
