Tasting Notes and Scores
The 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Seuvrées impressed me from barrel and now in bottle, it is certainly fulfilling its potential. Served blind at a restaurant in Beaune, it offers copious plush red fruit on the nose laced with subtle limestone scents. The palate is beautifully balanced with velvety smooth tannins, immense depth for a Village Cru with a purity on the finish that is completely disarming. I doubt that you will find many Village Crus that will surpass this little gem from Lignier. Tasted blind at La Superbe restaurant.

(production here was 37 hectoliters per hectare, which Lignier described as significantly less than normal due to a high proportion of millerandé grapes; 25% vendange entier ): Good dark red. Black cherry and a hint of licorice on the nose. A bit darker in its fruit character than La Justice, showing a supple texture and an impression of fullness but also good inner-mouth tension and saline minerality. Finishes with a slight wildness.

They have more than 1 ha on clayey soils. Very old vines near Mazoyères. Deep crimson. Racy and with lots of freshness. Even a suggestion of slight leafiness! Lots to chew on. Long. (JR)
