Riper and deeper on the nose than the Clos Sorbé, showing good mineral lift to the black cherry aroma. Altogether different on the palate too, with its very silky, fine-grained texture given definition by lively minerality. Distinctly riper and more flavorful than the Clos Sorbé, finishing with palate-staining length as well as an impression of elegance.

The 2016 Morey-Saint-Denis Ruchots 1er Cru has a straightforward bouquet with raspberry and cranberry aromas, just a little confit in style, but missing a little delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with a slightly charred opening, dry tannin, gentle grip with a spicy, green finish. This is just lacking some sophistication and breeding.
