Tasting Notes and Scores
The 2017 Beaune Grèves 1er Cru has a harmonious bouquet with ample ripe Morello cherry, strawberry and raspberry preserve aromas, a hint of vanilla in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, a little more compact than the Les Perrières and with more girth towards the grippy finish. As such, give this more bottle age because it is a fine Beaune Grèves.

The 2017 Beaune 1er Cru Grèves is showing well from bottle, unfurling in the glass with aromas of strawberries, cherries and plums mingled with sweet soil tones and licorice. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, velvety and charming, with supple tannins and a pretty core of fruit.

More mixed mineral soils with clay and iron on top of limestone and three times as old as Les Sizies. Mid slope and not as high as Perrières. 33% whole bunch. Barrel sample, not yet racked. Lightish cherry. Juicy, tangy cherry fruit. Dry and quite stemmy on the palate. Light-bodied, fresh and just in balance. Spicy, stemmy, fresh finish. A little bit dry overall. (JH)
