Tasting Notes and Scores

90-93 ST

Straw-yellow. Soil-driven aromas of apple, anise and crushed rock. Juicy and penetrating if a bit youthfully reduced on the palate, showing a distinctly sappy quality but little easy fruit today. No shortage of weight here, but this very tight grand cru comes across as disjointed following the Cailleret. This will need more time in barrel to harmonize and gain in length. The malolactic fermentation only finished in April, while the Cailleret was done in January.

Dense gold. Honeyed. Not that concentrated. Correct. But honestly looks a bit dull. (JR)

Tasted blind at the annual “Burgfest” tasting in Bouilland. The 2013 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru felt rather dilute on the nose -- perhaps picked too early? The palate is balanced but lacking real complexity and for want of a better word, the finish feels a little bland. I suspect this bottle had just gone awry and will seek to re-taste at a later date. Tasted May 2016.
