(100% vendange entier ; 40% new oak; from a crop level of 30 hectoliters per hectare):Some superripe, almost candied-fruit character to the aromas of raspberry, menthol, fresh herbs and licorice. Surprisingly supple and sweet in the mouth, but with cooler licorice and menthol notes providing counterpoint to the wine's ripe fruit aspect. Finishes saline and minerally, with serious dusty-but-ripe tannins that currently shorten the fruit a bit. Chef de cave Sieve noted that this wine was much more tannic--and shorter--a month prior to my visit.

The 2014 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru is 100% whole cluster and 40% new oak this year. It has a refined, laid-back bouquet with hints of tobacco and sous-bois underlying the black fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, quite compact in the mouth with a slight tinniness coming through towards the finish. It is very linear at the moment, so hopefully it will gain some flesh by next year.
