The 2018 Fixin Village sees 25% new oak and has a smoky, hickory-scented bouquet that is nicely defined, becoming earthier with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannins and a fine bead of acidity. Turns saline toward the beautifully poised finished. Very fine, but it needs more time than it will be given.

Cask sample. Dark crimson. Very rich and lively with lots of punch and attack. The samples were apparently taken ages ago – before Christmas! – but the wine hasn’t suffered. Well done! (JR)
