Tasting Notes and Scores
The 2014 Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru les Champonnet, bottled by itself since 2013, is matured in 40% new oak. The vineyard lies at the bottom of Clos Saint-Jacques on very deep black soils, the vines averaged around 40-years-old. It has a fragrant and floral bouquet, hints of rose petals infusing the vibrant red berry fruit. Again, there is great precision here. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, very pure fruit, almost Rousseau-like in texture with great precision on the piquant finish. An utter delight.

(aged in 40% new oak; the first year this parcel was vinified separately; from a combination of very old and younger vines on deeper soil with a calcaire component):Healthy dark red. Deeply pitched aromas of black cherry, earth and smoky oak. Supple and sweet but juicy and savory too; more open-knit than the 1er Cru blend. Seems a bit lower in acidity but a touch of mint accents the wine's saline middle palate.
