Tasting Notes and Scores

89 NM

The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny Village has a fragrant, quite floral nose, slightly savory compared to others and with a bit of oak to be subsumed. The palate is simple on the entry, offering fleshy red cherry and strawberry fruit. Perhaps I am just missing a little tension and terroir expression toward the finish? Hopefully that will develop by the time it is bottled.

La Combe d’Orveau and the more northerly Les Plantes premier cru (planted 1967). Barrel sample. A slightly wild note like wild strawberries. A touch of smoky reduction? Peppery and tight on the palate and so juicy and fresh. Energy and purity. Very fine tannins. Still some CO2 after late malo. There’s depth without weight. (JH)
