The 2015 Nuits Saint-Georges 1er Cru has a lovely, open, welcoming bouquet of red cherry, wild strawberry, orange blossom and light marmalade scents that seem to gain intensity with a few swirls of the glass. The poised, harmonious palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity. A complex, slightly earthy finish leaves brown spices lingering on the aftertaste. This is a divine expression of both appellation and vintage. Bon vin ! Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

Good full red. Ripe raspberry, cherry, mocha and spice aromas verge on liqueur-like. Then much more generous and complex in the mouth than the Vignes Rondes, with its thick dark fruit flavors leavened by a note of rose petal and ripe acidity. Less taut than the 2016 version and perhaps more typical for this bottling. This very well balanced wine finishes with superb spicy, floral, rising length. Much sweeter than the Vignes Rondes, with far more refined tannins, but it's hard to believe that a wine like this won't shut down in the bottle at some point.

Cask sample. Oak spice, black cherry, very fine tannin, wonderful acidic line keeping freshness. The fruit is crystalline and persistent, though not perhaps dense enough for very long age. (RH)
