The 2013 Nuit Saint Georges Clos de la Maréchale has a blackberry and boysenberry-scented bouquet that gains intensity with every swirl of the glass. The palate is compact and precise with taut, slightly obdurate tannins at first, but plenty of freshness. Quite masculine, this Nuits Saint Georges will deserves three or four years in bottle.

One of the best offerings from this monopole in recent vintages.

A big, powerful wine, the 2013 Nuits St. Georges Clos de la Maréchale hits the palate with a compelling melange of dark red fruit, game, smoke and cedar. There is more than enough depth to fill out the wine's broad, structured frame. As always, the Maréchale demands cellaring for the tannins to soften, although the tension and energy of Nuits is always present.

Bright, dark red. Highly aromatic nose combines blackberry, black raspberry, minerals and spices. Sappy and fine-grained; very dry and concentrated, conveying a strong impression of inner-palate energy. Sexy cherry and crushed stone flavors are framed by suave tannins on the very long, aromatic back end. Showing more éclat than it did from barrel a year ago, this wine has turned out very well.

Terrific depth and focus on the nose: blackberry fruit on Nuits seen through the delicate aromatic prism of Chambolle. The palate is a bit pinched and inky in comparison – I’d hoped for more after the nose. This seriously needs to loosen up. (AH)
