Bright medium red. Dark cherry, raspberry and flowers on the nose, plus a whiff of earth. Much tighter in the mouth than the Chambolle villages but already wonderfully suave and perfumed, showing a dusty, tactile quality and a lovely balance of sweet and saline elements. The dark raspberry and menthol flavors carry impressively on the perfumed, minerally back end.

130 pieces! 40,000 bottles. Assemblage of the eight cuvées. The second label (Les Fourches) has not been made since 2008. Fred: ‘the more I know this vineyard, the more I like it.’ This is a blend of each of the six major lots and Fred says it’s better than any one element. Big and bold – already expressive. Tight and dense. Very sappy. Exciting. Lots of personality, bravo! (JR)
