Tasting Notes and Scores

93 NM

The 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos des Maréchale 1er Cru is, again, very well defined on the nose with a little more complexity that de l'Arlot's Clos de l’Arlot. There’s a mélange of red and black fruit, sous-bois , bay leaf and clove. The palate is medium-bodied, finely-chiseled, taut and linear, with a keen thread of acidity. This is more sapid on the finish and bears a persistent aftertaste—a great wine for the vintage insofar that it retains freshness and vitality without losing any terroir expression. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

0.6 ha. Racked beginning September. To be bottled in January 2021. Cask sample. Sumptuous. Rich and almost exotic. I’m afraid there is a hint of pineapple here but it’s nothing like the New World barrel-fermented Chardonnays of old. Savoury tight finish with a lightly bitter note. Fun! (JR)
