Bright medium red. Red berry aromas complicated by musky game and soil tones and lifted by white pepper, flowers and savory herbs. A wonderfully deep, penetrating grand cru with outstanding inner-mouth saline minerality and piquant notes of pepper, flowers, spices and herbs. Great energy and precision here, not to mention transparency to soil. Still a bit youthfully imploded but already conveys an impression of superb balance and the tannins are utterly smooth. The wonderfully stimulating, salty, resounding finish stains the palate and leaves the mouth perfumed. Will this wine shut down in bottle?

From the Chambolle side below de Vogüé. 100% new oak. Deep garnet. Haunting perfume. Lots of energy with the rich ripe fruit enveloped in a casing of freshness. This should keep its energy for a long time. Fine, sleek tannins on the end. Not that long at the moment but all the constituents are there. (JR)
