From the 32-year-old vines, the 2019 Volnay Clos des Chênes 1er Cru has the most backward and recalcitrant nose of Bouley’s Volnays, though well defined and focused. The palate is grippy on the entry with superb precision. It reminds me of Lafarge albeit with darker fruit towards the finish. Excellent.
