The 2019 Volnay Santenots 1er Cru comes from a tiny 0.09-hectare parcel in Les Santenots Blanc lieu-dit that yields just a single barrel. It was planted by Pierrick’s grandfather. The nose is very fragrant and quite floral, very fresh and delineated, hints of white pepper suffusing the red fruit. It has a well-defined and supremely well structured palate that delivers layers of bright red/black fruit. Wonderful mineralité here with great length. Shame there is only a barrel.
