(just one 350-liter barrel made, vs. a normal six): Pale bright yellow. Pungent scents of fresh herbs, white pepper, chlorophyll, anise and fennel. Nicely dense and intense but tightly wound, with its citrus and nectarine flavors conveying an impression of strong dry extract. Firmly structured and a bit youthfully aggressive. The savory, slightly bitter, palate-dusting finish is slightly hard-edged today, partly owing to the carbonic gas. Will this wine soften during its remaining months of élevage ?

Very calcareous and pebbly. Bottom of the hill. On the Puligny side. Light soils. 45-year-old vines. One 300-litre cask – not new. Badly hit by frost. Many producers failed to produce it in 2016. Barrel sample. Pale lemon straw. Light, fresh, almost grapefruit nose. But then really substantial on the palate. Masses of vibrancy and real kick, density and balance. (JR)
