Tasting Notes and Scores

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 30/04/2012

The 2009 Chambolle-Musigny Les Combottes presents an intriguing and inviting melange of dark red cherries, mint, licorice and spices. There is wonderful depth to the fruit as the wine continues to open up in the glass. This is a decidedly dark, powerful style of Chambolle, but it works, and quite beautifully, too. It will be interesting to see the direction the Combottes takes over the coming years. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024.

It is a fascinating to revisit Christophe Roumier’s 2009s from bottle. The lower-end wines are marked by the year to a significantly greater extent than the top wines.

Tasted out of barrel at the Domaine. The Chambolle Village has a very pure bouquet with fine mineralite considering it is only a Village Cru. Silky tannins on the palate with Maraschino, orange essence and just a touch of bitter lemon, but demonstrated great harmony on the supple finish. Wonderful. Tasted January 2011.

The 2009 Chambolle-Musigny is all class and elegance. An expressive, open bouquet leads to candied red fruits and flowers in this plump, hugely pleasurable wine. This is a blend of five vinifications. Tasted from tank.

I hadn't drunk a bottle of Roumier's 2009 Chambolle-Musigny Village for seven years, largely because I couldn't find the case in my cellar, but my enforced patience has been richly rewarded, as the wine is just entering its drinking window. Wafting from the glass with aromas of blackberries and raspberries mingled with subtle hints of peony and spices, it's medium to full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping, with melting but still present tannins, succulent acids and an expansive finish. Readers with multiple bottles shouldn't hesitate to enjoy one now.

Outstanding. This is also quite fresh and bright if not quite as ripe with high-toned and very Chambolle-like red berry fruit and wet stone aromas that lead to lacy, pure and refined middle weight flavors that are the epitome of finesse and harmony. This is not only a lovely villages but it's also one that is less obviously marked by the vintage. Excellent and this too is recommended. Drink: 2015+

(not yet racked; a blend of five cuvees, now 13.3% alcohol) Good medium red. Pungent aromas of red berries and minerals, with a touch of reduction. Sweet, thick and smooth, with captivating raspberry, floral and mineral flavors. Finishes with very ripe tannins and good spicy length. This will give pleasure early. Very 2009 in style.
