Tasting Notes and Scores

91-93 NM

The 2014 Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru Les Combottes has a broody, gravel-tinged bouquet with undergrowth and briary scents, one that is decidedly more introspective than the Bussières. The palate is underpinned by very fine, slightly chalky tannin. The acidity drives this along, almost citric towards the pointed finish with a stony aftertaste. This is another thought-provoking and wondrously crafted Chambolle Musigny from Christophe Roumier.

Good dark red. Slightly high-toned aromas of red licorice, menthol and spices, showing more red than black fruits. Much more reserved on the palate than the Clos de la Bussière, conveying strong spice character and less easy sweetness. This youthfully medicinal, fairly tannic wine finishes with excellent saline persistence.

Next to Charmes. Deeply coloured. Red fruits in abundance. Very juicy and very fine tannins indeed with some attractive hint of leather. (JR)
