Tasting Notes and Scores
The 2016 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru is showing very well, revealing aromas of earthy wild berries that mingle with notions of black truffle, grilled meats and dark chocolate. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, deep and multidimensional, with a sapid core of fruit that largely cloaks its chalky tannins and a long, mouthwatering finish.

The 2016 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru has a surprisingly understated bouquet, mainly black fruit here, sous-bois , pencil box and suggestions of black truffle that mutate into curry leaf aromas with time. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannin, quite masculine in style, perhaps beginning to close down already. This is a rather stocky Mazis-Chambertin that will require several years in bottle. Tasted at the Domaine.

Bright ruby. Very pure, primary, soil-inflected aromas of blackberry, kirsch , violet, licorice and game. Plush and sweet but given shape and grip by a firm medicinal spine. Here the tannins are rather delicate and refined. Finishes with subtle sneaky length, a note of cocoa powder and lovely floral energy. Quite fine-grained and discreet today, but with an element of medicinal reserve that promises much more ahead.
