Unwinding in the glass with aromas of dark berries, spices, espresso roast, loamy soil and orange oil, the 2021 Chambertin Grand Cru is medium to full-bodied, deep and layered, with a seamless core of fruit that's framed by powdery tannins and lively acids. Rich and penetrating, it's the most reserved wine in the cellar at this youthful stage.

Cask sample. Mid-dark ruby. Sweet, red fruits (red cherry, laced with redcurrants and red-fruit coulis) this is glamorous, oozing refined, elegant luxury. There is fine, high-strung acidity which belies its firm, almost four-square structure. Very long, very fine, very nascent. (MH)

The 2021 Chambertin Grand Cru has a lively, slightly citrus-driven bouquet with ample red fruit but after 10 minutes, there is a corky note that eventually subdues the fruit. There is patently a really lovely wine trying to peek its head from that veil of TCA but I will not rate this. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.
