Tasting Notes and Scores
The 2020 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru offers up aromas of cherries, red berries, raw cocoa, sweet soil tones and warm spices. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and nicely concentrated, it's seamless and elegant, with powdery tannins, lively acids and a penetrating finish. It's a terrific follow-up to the excellent 2019.

The 2020 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru has an oaky and slightly Bretty nose that, at the moment, occludes the terroir profile. The palate is medium-bodied with thickset tannins, quite dense, and broad-shouldered, and it initially lacks the grace and poise of a top Gevrey but improves markedly with aeration. Cyrielle Rousseau conjured some magnificent wines in 2020, but this bottle doesn't entirely pass muster. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

Cask sample. Mellow, sweet fruit. Caressing elegance and very fine balance. (MH)
