Tasting Notes and Scores
As Rousseau stated, his ruby-colored 1999 Mazis-Chambertin "has more flesh than the Charmes." It is medium-bodied and offers an excellent depth of super-ripe black fruit flavors. Its tannin-filled finish is ripe and ensconced in fruit. Drink it over the next 8-9 years. Importer: Frederick Wildman & Sons, New York, NY; tel. (212) 355-0700.

Medium red. Somewhat sauvage aromas of briary dark berries, redcurrant, licorice, mocha, coffee and game. Less round and a bit dryer than the Charmes, but with very good intensity and clarity of flavor. Quite firm on the back end.

Good deep red. Sappy, expressive nose melds raspberry, maraschino cherry, animal fur and coffee. Juicy and fresh in the mouth, with a tight core of cherry and spice flavor. Finishes slightly dry, with a hint of tart acidity.
