Tasting Notes and Scores
The 2018 Mazy-Chambertin Grand Cru has a beautifully defined bouquet of intense red berry fruit and displays superb mineralité – vrai Mazys. It is more serious than the Charmes-Chambertin. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, very pure red currant and raspberry fruit and gentle grip. An undertow of pepperiness surfaces toward the voluminous finish. Superb.

Aromas of dark wild berries, raspberries, smoked meats, rich soil tones and espresso roast introduce the 2018 Mazy-Chambertin Grand Cru, a full-bodied, lavishly textural wine that's more structured and muscular than the Charmes-Chambertin that preceded it, built around livelier acids and concluding with a longer finish. If the Charmes is more extroverted, the Mazy is deeper and more serious, built for the cellar.

20% new oak. Barrel sample. Much darker in fruit character than the Charmes-Chambertin was at first but not yet savoury. A delicate dustiness of stones. Chewy on the palate though the tannins seem to be infused with fruit, and there’s a flash of freshness. The finish has a lightly sour note to balance the sweetness of fruit. (JH)
