Tasting Notes and Scores
Violets, lavender, menthol and blue/purplish-hued fruits emerge from the 2013 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers. Deep, pliant and exceptionally polished, the Cazetiers comes across as impeccably balanced today. Lifted aromatics balance the sumptuous fruit in an expressive, textured Cazetiers long on finesse.

Healthy deep red. Sexy red cherry and smoked meat on the nose, lifted by a floral topnote. Dense, sappy red fruit flavors show a distinctly primary quality and good juicy cut. Firmly built, youthful wine with good density and thrust.

Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Cazetiers has a much more simplistic bouquet than its peers, rather pinched, though it does open with aeration to offer brambly dark red fruit with just a very slight latte aroma. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grip, plenty of juicy red fruit with just a hint of cassis, segueing into a lightly peppered and pleasing finish. I was not totally convinced about this cru from Rousseau out of barrel and here under blind condition it did not stamp its authority amongst several Cazetiers from other growers. Tasted September 2016.
