Tasting Notes and Scores
The 2017 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru has a pastille-like bouquet, quite exotic, with slightly off-putting blood orange and tangerine scents percolating through the red fruit. The palate is very oaky, charred and burnt in character, smothering the terroir expression and denuding it of freshness on the drying finish. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.

Mid cherry red. Not yet totally open but there is clearly a depth and intensity of pure red fruit here and it becomes a little more floral with air. I don't know if he uses whole bunches but there seems to be a very slight stemmy note adding freshness. Chewy yet all in balance. (JH)
