The 2014 Corton Rognet Grand Cru was still showing the touch of reduction that I noticed on the bottle tasted blind last year, though there is sufficient fruit underneath it. It just requires some time in bottle. The palate is medium-bodied with a lightly spiced entry. This feels quite dense and solid, robust tannins forming a rigid spine, although there is plenty of red, lightly spiced, white pepper tinged fruit on the finish to maintain balance and pleasure. Medium red. Deep, ripe aromas of candied berries, spices, smoke, honey and earth are a bit less pristine than those of the Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Pruliers. Tightly wound and powerful, showing more earthy salinity than primary fruits today. The chewy, granular tannins currently dry the tongue. This wine will need patience.

Sweet and polished. Round and polished. Lovely texture and drive. (JR)
