The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Bel Air 1er Cru is open-knit and loamy on the nose, perhaps not quite as exuberant as the Les Goulots from Heresztyn-Mazzini, almost peaty with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with a nicely polished opening, some quality new oak here (François Frères?) assiduously used and lending a silky modern sheen towards the finish. Very fine, though I notice just a touch of heat on the aftertaste. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting.
