The 2013 Mazoyères-Chambertin Grand Cru has retained that disarming floral scents, more iris than violets, that combine wonderfully with the dark cherry and blueberry fruit. If I had this blind I would be inclined to guess more Charmes-Chambertin than Mazoyères. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannin. It is underpinned by brisk acidity, and very fine focus. Perhaps this has developed more precision towards the finish in recent months. It appears to be a Grand Cru that will reward those with the patience to cellar this for several years. Deep, bright red. Captivating aromas of strawberry, raspberry, cherry liqueur, soy sauce and porcini. At once dense and juicy, conveying outstanding energy and firm underlying minerality to its flavors of red fruits, spices, dried flowers and earth. Still tightly wound but not hard, this strong effort finishes with firm but sweet tannins and terrific rising length.

Great depth but discreet. Very interesting top notes and real breadth of fruit. Very impressive. Real depth. Great balance. Firm and fine. Complete. (JR)
