Tasting Notes and Scores
The 2022 Mazoyères-Chambertin Grand Cru has a mineral-driven bouquet, more complex than the Charmes, offering tightly wound black fruit with attractive black pepper, minerally scents, and a hint of iris flower. The palate is medium-bodied, very taut and linear, with fine-boned tannins, focused with dark fruit towards the finish. This will probably land at the top of my banded score once in bottle.

Cask sample. Shows the extra weight and density expected of the grand cru. Having said that, this is a (relatively) approachable example with loads of ripe dark-berry fruit on the palate. No hard edges. Tannic structure, oak is in the background but very fine and with a very long future ahead. A beautifully sculpted grand cru. Spice notes and dark-cherry notes. Expensive but definitely worth the money. (AWH)
