Tasting Notes and Scores
Good bright red. Pretty, floral nose combines raspberry, rose petal and saline minerality. A silky, savory midweight given definition and lift by tart red berry, violet and spice flavors. The wine's sweetness is nicely countered by its penetrating character. A classically dry 2014 with terrific energy, this has turned out very well. Romain Taupenot considers La Riotte to be an underrated premier cru.

Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, the 2014 Morey Saint Denis 1er Cru la Riotte from Domaine Taupenot-Merme has a finely tuned bouquet: dark cherries, bergamot and plenty of sous-bois that is all well defined. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, supple and lithe in the mouth with a harmonious if not overly complex finish that leaves you satisfied and reaching for the next drop. This is a very more-ish Morey-Saint-Denis. One to watch. Tasted September 2017.

Same geology as Mazoyères. One of Morey’s leading premiers crus. And most of the vines are very old (see Olivier Jouan). Taupenot vines are about 55 years old. Parcel of 2.5 ha. The same subsoil as Mazoyères. Pungent. Sweet and spicy with real structure. Exciting! (JR)
