Tasting Notes and Scores

The 2017 Meursault 1er Cru Genevrières was the least evolved when I tasted it from barrel, and it really needs more élevage to come together, but its outlines are very impressive. Notes of green orchard fruit, dried white flowers and light reduction are followed by a medium to full-bodied and elegantly textural palate that is more tensile and linear after the broader, richer Charmes.

While production is way down due to the frost, the 2017 Chateau Teyssier is a solid effort that has plenty of black cherries, dried herbs, and savory, spicy incense aromas and flavors. Medium-bodied, nicely textured, and balanced, it's a high-quality, juicy, charming effort. Drink it any time over the coming decade.

Less immediate fruit on the nose compared with the Charmes Dessus. A touch of spice, broad in the mouth, gentle but sour-fresh on the finish. (JH)
