Tasting Notes and Scores

90 ST

(Liger-Belair just bought this parcel on mostly clay and silt soil after years of farming it via a fermage arrangement; 50% vendange entier ; just 20% of the crop was lost to frost): Dark red with ruby tones. Very ripe dark fruit aromas are complicated by strong soil notes of dried flowers ("the veggie side of floral," says Liger-Belair), licorice and cut straw. More precise on the palate than the nose suggests, displaying the savory, sappy side of the vintage and very good intensity. Finishes with building, slightly dusty tannins and noteworthy energy. Not at all a rustic style of Gevrey, despite the fact that it's from a parcel on the wrong side of the Route Nationale.
