Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru has a refined, elegant bouquet with clean and very pure fruit, wonderful use of new oak, feminine and sensual. The palate is medium-bodied with filigree tannin, perfect acidity, light on its toes yet with great complexity and depth on the finish. This is a very classy and sophisticated wine that should age in consummate style. Tasted September 2016.

Bright, healthy red. Raspberry, smoke and licorice on the nose, lifted by a rose note. Silky and minerally on entry, then sappy and enegetic in the middle, showing more grip and more powdery tannins than the Alea. At once salty and lively on the lingering, nicely ripe finish.

Much riper smelling than any other Rossignol-Trapel wine tasted so far. Vanilla-scented ripe red fruit but there is still that light and fresh stemmy note. Dry, lithe and fresh. Lightweight but super elegant. Tannins barely present except in the dry, more savoury finish. (JH)
