There are seven barrels of the 2016 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru this year including two-thirds whole bunch fruit (50% new oak). It has a wonderful bouquet, so elegant and refined without shortchanging you on ebullient red fruit. The energy here is palpable. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannin, quite tightly wound at the moment, saline with a subtle marine influence toward the finish. I found this grand cru mercurial in the glass, changing as its aerates, developing more body and more spiciness. One to watch!

Sweet start and very fresh fruit. They don’t really seem to be trying; they just produce great candied-cherry fruit with lovely length. Chapeau! (JR)

Cask sample. Subtle, mildly stemmy red fruit. Subtle yet inviting. Succulent fruit and supple tannins already, remarkably approachable. Chewy, balanced and long. (JH)
