The 2011 Bourgogne Rouge is wonderfully fleshy, radiant and expressive in this vintage. Succulent red berries, flowers, mint and licorice are some of the many nuances that flesh out in this hugely delicious, generous Bourgogne. Virgile Lignier’s Bourgogne is a real overachiever in 2011. The Bourgogne was done with 30% whole clusters and was aged in 30% new barrels.

From several parcels in Morey Saint Denis and Chambolle, including plots of 50-year-old vines, the 2011 Bourgogne Rouge has a strong incense-infused bouquet. The palate is soft and rounded on the entry with a good density and weight, although that 30% new oak feels a little excessive on the finish. Still, it slips down the throat nicely. Drink now.
