Tasting Notes and Scores
Outstanding. This is compositionally similar to the villages but here there is notably better complexity and much more spice to the superbly fresh red and blue pinot fruit and kirsch scents. The supple, pure and attractively energetic flavors possess very solid mid-palate density yet the mouth feel is really quite lacy while terminating in a harmonious, dusty and hugely persistent finish that displays a hint of citrus. This strongly mineral-driven effort is wonderfully poised, indeed it's Zen-like. In short, this is terrific. Drink: 2022+

The 2010 Chambolle-Musigny is fantastic. It boasts incredible aromatic complexity, gorgeous textural finesse and seemingly endless layers of fruit. Suave yet firm tannins support the fruit through to the highly attractive, delineated finish. This is a great way to start a survey of the domaine’s 2010s. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2025.
Long-time oenologist Francois Millet was away during my visit to Burgundy, so I can’t relay his always visually evocative thoughts on recent vintages. At the end of the day, though, these wines need no words; they speak for themselves, and then some. Commercial director Jean-Luc Pepin was kind enough to show me all of the 2010s and 2009s (from bottle), including the seldom seen Bourgogne Blanc. I will report on the 2009s in the April issue.

Bright medium red. Tangy raspberry aroma lifted by a hint of peppery acidity and a suggestion of white fruits. Precise and piercing, with brisk acidity and strong minerality currently dominating underlying red fruits and flowers. Wonderfully fresh and long but in need of some time in bottle. "Two thousand ten is great if you like minerality, the truth and freshness," noted winemaker Francois Millet. A splendid village wine with a future.
