The 2018 Vougeot 1er Cru Le Clos Blanc de Vougeot wafts from the glass with scents of pear, peach, mandarin orange and fresh pastry. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, ample and enveloping, with ripe but lively acids and a saline, perfumed finish.

Quite a price! (Did Berrys buy a bit too much of this wine?) Savoury, serious nose with real depth and nuance – more concentration than most premiers crus. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this wine, made with great attention to detail, but surely I could find a cheaper alternative? From Oregon or New Zealand perhaps? Long and already drinking well. (JR)
