The 2018 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Damodes 1er Cru has an intriguing bouquet, a hint of blood orange and marmalade coming through with time and neatly stitched with the red fruit. Nicely integrated oak here. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red fruit, blood orange and white pepper. There is a patina of new oak to be subsumed on the finish, but I admire the freshness, no doubt assisted by some acidification. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting.

The 2018 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Damodes was another of the more introverted wines in the cellar when I visited, opening up to reveal notes of cassis, cherries, smoked meats and rich soil tones. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, firm and muscular, with rich tannins that will round out with further élevage, underpinned by ripe acids.
