Tasting Notes and Scores

The 2021 Volnay Carelle Sous La Chapelle 1er Cru offers red cherry, kirsch and bergamot scents on the nose, though it lacks real depth and Volnaysian sensuality. It does, thankfully, gain a little presence with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannins, quite saline and peppery, possibly benefitting from stem addition on the finish that imparts a welcome touch of fire. The palate shows better than the aromatics at the moment. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.
