Tasting Notes and Scores
The 2018 Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru demonstrates more new oak on the nose than its peers, more backward and consequently it does not articulate its terroir as much as its peers…for the moment at least. The palate is medium-bodied with quite thick tannins that lend this weight and density. Solid, powerful and almost burly, this is a huge wine that risks deviating away from Pinot Noir typicité…but stops short of overstepping the mark. It may go either way, collapse on its own concentration or evolve into one of the finest wines of the vintage. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting.
