Tasting Notes and Scores

90 AG

The 2009 Maranges Le Croix aux Moines is gorgeous. It shows wonderful freshness and vibrancy in its dark red fruit, spices and licorice. All the elements are beautifully balanced in this harmonious, poised Burgundy.

(from 60-to-80-year-old vines planted on white soil on a steep, stony slope) Good bright deep red. Restrained, slightly reduced aromas of cherry liqueur, stone and minerals. Liqueur-like on the palate, with red fruit flavors complicated by an exotic suggestion of pineapple and perked up by mineral energy. But finishes somewhat warm and aggressive, with dusty tannins.
